Youths leader shot dead in Delta community

UGHELLI- Rustic Owevwen community, Ughelli North local council  was the scene of a bloody conflict between two warring youth groups yesterday resulting in the death of a young man while four persons were seriously injured.

The killing by the unknown gun men comes on the heels of another shooting which claimed the life of two youths.

A community source who would not want his name in print explained that the youth was ambushed by the rival gang members when he and his colleagues entered the bush to retrieve the remains of the two youths who were earlier killed..

It was learnt that residents of the community have fled in their numbers for fear of reprisal attacks.

Continuing, the source disclosed that after the remains of the two youths were discovered last Wednesday other youths from the community mobilized I a bid to apprehend the perpetrators.

He said, “Youths loyal to the community chairman Lucky Dietaruvwe upon getting information that a rival faction suspected to have carried out last Wednesday’s attack are camping in the bush mobilized in an attempt to bring them to book.

Continuing, “Unfortunately, the youths were ambushed leading to an attack and his unfortunate death’’

Confirming the incidents, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka said three persons lost their lives and two injured.
The spokesman further added that, the police are investigating the killing. According to him, two persons have been arrested in connection  with the murder of the three youths at Ughelli North local government area of the state.
