Western Delta Varsity to hold 7th Seventh convocation ceremony

All is now set in Oghara Delta State as the western Delta University is billed to graduate on the 3rd – 7th combined convocation/ 10th year Anniversary celebration of the University.

The Vice Chancellor of Western Delta University, Oghara,  Delta State, Professor Mrs. Cecilia Otete Okobiah, said that the Western Delta of her dream is to see an institution that will create  an entrepreneurship center that will serve as a flagship of national economic growth and development.


The Vice Chancellor who was addressing a press conference as part of activities marking the combined 3rd – 7th convocation and 10th year anniversary of the  institution explained that in this time of graduate unemployment, she is poised   to build  a Western Delta University that would be known for a centre of  excellence that will produce graduates that will become the economic drivers  of the nation.

She noted that  global economic recession and unemployment has compelled the need for universities to look  towards the direction of producing graduands that would be self employed and also employers of labour.

She disclosed that Western Delta has made provisions for vocational skill centres in the pursuit of this laudable objectives, commending the Managing Director / Chief Execution Officer of DESOPADEC,  Olorogun Williams Makinde for keying into this vision.
While highlighting the activities of the week long events, she remarked that the  university has made giant strides in the area  of producing  quality graduates who are competing favourably in the  competitive labour market,  won laurels in academic and sports competitions within  the ten years of the university’s existence.

The Vice Chancellor also emphasized that determine to make the institution  a centre of academic excellence, the school  has placed  priority on training and retraining of the manpower personnel through provisions of grants and direct finacial assistance to staff to enable them attend conferences within and outside the shores of Nigeria.

She said, ” we have also tried to give direction on the structure of the university by organizing seminar on how to write award wining grants. We encourage staff to involve students in action research activities in their lecture classes “.

She also disclosed  that the school  has made reasonable progress in area of accreditation of additional faculties by the NUC.

She listed criminology and security studies,  international relations, law,  accounting, business administration and political science as some of these new course approved for the school.
