Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non- Academic Staff Union (NASU), University of Ibadan chapter, have intensified their five days industrial strike action within the university .
In a statement released by the NASU secretary in the university, Comerade Sunday Akinpelu, the strike action, which started on Monday, July 15 will last till Friday, July 19.
As at the time of filing this report, the university main gate has been shut and many offices are under locks and keys.
SSANU AND NASU members are protesting against the refusal of the federal government to heed their request made since 2006 and other agreements reached on earned allowances, arrears and other benefits.
On July 15, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, in an interview, revealed that the Federal Government had directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to conclude the audit of teaching and non-teaching staff of universities in Nigeria so as to see to the demands of the different bodies in the universities.
Effort to speak to the Chairman of the two bodies in the university was unsuccessful.
