Palpable tension has engulfed Ogulagha community in Delta State, following the killing of a young man, Endurance Oweiye Kalaepele, 27, who was allegedly shot twice by the military men attached to the Forcados Terminal in the area.
Daily Watch gathered that the incident happened on Monday, 27th June, 2022 at about 11pm.
According to youth president, ThankGod Iyaragba: “Around 10 pm yesterday, Monday, June 27, 2022, six of the community boys went to the bush behind Forcadoes Terminal, the Pipeline bush, for snail picking, but were intercepted on their way back by the military men. One of the boys, Endurance, tried to run out of fear but shot twice at close range.”
“This prompted the infuriated youths of the community to go on a rampage destroying company vehicles and property. They have also taken over the major roads in the community to express their anger,” he said.
Ijaw youth Council (IYC) Western zone chairman, Dr. Collins Doubra who is an indigene of Ogulagha condemned the extra-judicial murder of the young man. He described the killing as unprofessional by the soldiers for opening gunfire on armless youths in the night because they were seen around their security bid.
“” I am right now at the hospital in Ogulagha where the young man finally gave up. You don’t test your guns on the indigenes whose oil help the nation’s revenue as well as soldiers monthly salaries How can you open gun on deenseless and armless youths like common criminals?
“” I condemned the extra-judicial killing in totality and I am calling on the military authorities to caution their men in Ogulagha” He said.
Our effort to get military side of the story proved abortive as the defence spokesman, Abuja Brigaidier General Onyema as his number was ringing without response.
