The Resident Electoral Commissioner, of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Taraba state, Baba Abba Yusuf has disclosed that about 540 corps members will work as ad-hoc staff during Saturday’s by-election for Takum 1 constituency in the state House of Assembly.
He explained that all mechanism has been put in place to ensure safety of the corps members considering the volatile nature of the area for a free, fair and credible elections.
He said: “We have taken measures to see that this election goes through safely without any hitch.
“Takum is a volatile area and but we have been meeting with the security agencies, including the military to increase the patrol there.
“The police and other sister security agencies are ready to cover all the places in Takum where this election is taking place.”
Yusuf who noted that the commission has captured 265, 565 persons in the Continuous Voters Registration, CVR, however lamented that 88, 783 Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, are yet to be claimed by their owners.
He urged those yet to pick their PVCs to visit the Commissions headquarters or INEC offices in their various Local government areas for collection.
Meanwhile, the state commissioner of Police, David Akinremi has said he will be moving to Takum on Thursday for Saturday’s by-election.
According to him, enough police personnel would be mobilised to the area to ensure safety of those that would be involved.
