Commissioner of Police Delta state Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke has said that the Independence day two rival cult clash in Warri claimed two persons, male and female while others sustained bullet wounds are receiving treatment in undisclosed hospitals in Warri, Delta state.
The police boss disclosed on Friday exclusively while answering Daily Watch inquiry, said ‘‘ Two were killed, male and female and others wounded with bullet arereceiving treatment in hospital. The Police is on top of the situation. I urge residents in Iyara, Merogun not to panic and go about their normal businesses. My men have taken over the place. The cultists are fleeing. I assure you they will be apprehended and will face the full weight of the law’’
When Daily Watch visited the flash point in Merogun Warri, the community is virtually empty, except few persons seen on the major road. All the shops are under lock and key.
Our reporter said, no policeman was seen on the road as against earlier media report of Delta police Command deployment of special police squad to the location of the warring cult rival cult gang members. Although, our reporter could ascertain whether the police are on decoy operation disguised to ambush their targets.
Daily Watch findings further disclosed that the two rival gang gun duel claimed five persons, three male and two females.
A source who pleaded not to be identified in Merogun told Daily Watch that the ongoing cult members of ‘Black Axe’ and ‘Vikin’ fought over superiority fight over a girlfriend. ‘‘That the very girl in the center of the girl who was said to have been dating two rival cult gang members was also shot dead, a dresser from both Ijaw/Urhobo. While other four persons also killed on reprisal attacks from 1st October till yesterday’’
