The governor of Bayelsa State, Henry Seriake Dickson has called on delegates to the forthcoming PDP primaries to shun aspirants who betrayed the party in collaboration with the opposition to stop the conduct of council polls.
Dickson who was speaking at the flag presentation ceremony for PDP candidates for the local government elections, said that by virtue of their victory on Saturday the eight chairmen, their vice and the 105 Councillors would be automatic delegates to vote for the September 3 party primaries.
According to him, some persons within the party were jittery of their new status as PDP candidates ahead of the primaries and had started the underground moves to scuttle the local government polls through the court.
He warned the PDP candidates in the council election that voting a non restoration governorship candidate would mean the end of their offices as such person would dissolve them after emerging as governor.
In his a address at the PDP local government election rally at Peace Park, Yenagoa, he said: “They said they don’t want you people. The eight chairmen, the eight vice-chairmen and 105 councilors, you are all by the rules of our party delegates in the forthcoming governorship primaries.
“That is their fear. Let me explain something to you briefly. You see all those delegates especially you, anybody you choose who is not a restoration governor after winning election will dissolve all of you.
“So if you love yourselves, those who have gone to court to stop you from becoming chairmen, vice-chairmen and councilors, if they are governors or the people they support are governors, do you want them to come and dissolve and sack you?
“You know what to do not in anybody’s interest but in your interest. I think they said local government elections would not holding but now it is going to hold. They are boasting that the ward people will not vote but let me tell you all the ward people will vote.
“Those who are boasting that they will take primary away to another state, let me tell you, that cannot happen at all. They are not in control. They are just making mouth. The ofurumapepe is in charge”.
Presenting PDP’s flag to candidates at the rally, Dickson called on some chieftains of the PDP, who were engaged in anti-party activities, to retrace their steps for the continued peace and stability of the state.
Meanwhile, a pro- Peoples Democratic Party group known as the Integrity Group, has faulted the position of Governor Seriake Dickson and called on the Chairmanship and Councillorship of the Party to disregard the position of the Governor and vote for their conscience during the Governorship primaries as the development of the state and the empowerment of all indigenes of Bayelsa should be the primary consideration.
The Integrity Group of the PDP, in a statement made available to DAILY WATCH in Yenagoa and signed by its Coordinator, Hon. Tony Nathan Ile, stated that contrary to the claim of Governor Dickson, no aspirant will remove the Chairmen and Councillors from office if he emerges as the candidate of the party and Governor in 2020.
According to the group, “No PDP Governor will remove any elected Chairman or Councillors from office like Governor Seriake Dickson did to the Chairmen of Five out of Eight Local Government Councils three months after he assumed office as Governor. As the conscience of the Party in the state, the group advised the Chairmen,Vice Chairmen and councillors in waiting to vote their conscience as the development of the state and the empowerment of all Bayelsans should be their primary consideration and not some pecuniary benefits.”
“The group admonished Bayelsa Indigenes to be focussed on voting a candidate who is well prepared, has a development strategy and vision,is respected within and outside the state, attract investors into the state and empower the ordinary people of the state.”
