OPINION: The N700m saga and the roles of all key actors

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu
By Tony Okonigene
It amuses me whenever I read about some uninformed PDP media warlords talking about Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and others being prosecuted by the EFCC for laundering #700m PDP campaign funds. Conveniently, they omit mentioning the names of the other key actors in the saga.
For the benefit of those who are not informed about the whole drama playing out, it has become pertinent that the roles of the key actors be made known.
When the #700m campaign fund for Edo state PDP was deposited in the bank, the leader of the party , Chief Tony Anenih of blessed memory, called Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu who was the DG of the Edo state PDP Presidential campaigns, to go and sign for the release of the funds.
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, went to the bank and signed the necessary papers for the release of the funds on behalf of the Edo state PDP. The bank officials then took the funds in their bullion van to Chief Anenih’s residence and delivered the money to the then state chairman, Chief Dan Orbih and Hon. Tony Azeigbemi who was mandated by the national leader to join in disbursing the money.
The LGA party chairmen were invited and the money disbursed accordingly.
The PDP with Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the DG, went ahead to win the presidential election, 2 senatorial seats and 4 House of Representatives seats in Edo state where APC was in power. The leaders and members of the PDP at the national and state levels, hailed Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and his team for a job weldone.
When the EFCC came up with the #700m issue, the 18 LGA party chairmen, came out to attest to the fact that the money was disbursed to the party through them prudently by Chief Dan Obih, Hon Tony Aizegbemi and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. The PDP accused the EFCC of witch hunting its members.
It is therefore a mark of insincerity and hypocrisy for the same PDP members to be sponsoring the social media warlords to attack the person of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu for this. More worrisome is the call by some uninformed and obviously sponsored groups calling on Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to resign while applauding the positions of Chief Dan Obih as the PDP South-South  chairman and Hon Tony Aizegbemi as the PDP state chairman.
What the EFCC is accusing Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Chief Dan Obih and Hon Tony Aizegbemi of is money laundering. To explain better, they are being accused of not disbursing the money through financial institutions not that the money was stolen. Get that right.
Instead of embarking on this fruitless line of campaign, the PDP should organize themselves in Edo state and get set for the tsunami that will sweep them out of the Edo state government house before they even have the chance to settle down.
