Ondo state government commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Donald Ojogo, has acknowledged the immeasurable roles of the media in the quest of any government to succeed in delivering its policies and programmes.
He made the remark this in Akure while playing host to the State executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) who paid him an official familiarization visit.
Mr Ojogo explained that facts and records have shown that no government or public office holders who were unfriendly to media professionals could achieve their desired results.
The Commissioner said as a core professional journalist and NUJ member of many years, he holds the union in high esteem and therefore solicited the support of the NUJ leadership at state and various chapels to enable him succeed.
He noted that the state Governor, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu would not joke with any effort that could uplift the practice of journalism in the state.
Ojogo promised that his ministry would consider various requests of NUJ including training and retraining of information/press officers as well as revamping facilities at the Union’s Press centre, Akure
Earlier, the State NUJ Chairman, Mr Adetona Aderoboye had expressed appreciation to governor Akeredolu for considering a core journalist like Ojogo as Information Commissioner.
Mr Aderoboye urged the Commissioner to give priority to programmes that would uplift the welfare of journalists in the state.
