Nigeria’s foremost media consultant Dr. Pedro Obaseki has denied story making the rounds that Edo state government has sold the state owned broadcasting outfit, Edo Broadcasting Service, EBS to him.
Dr. Obeseki made this known in a telephone interview with Radio Nigeria, Bronze FM, Benin City, Edo State.
He explained that there was no way the license of such an establishment could be transferred since there was no provision in the National Broadcast code to that effect.
Dr. Obaseki said as a consultant to the broadcast outfit his job was to assist in its reorganization policy of the state stressing that at no point was the government interested in selling or privatizing the outfit.
Dr. Obaseki said it was not true that any staff of the outfit was disengaged and explained that their redeployment to the state Ministry of Information was done because the outfit was not a gazetted parastatal.
Dr. Obaseki said the governor was concerned on the dwindling fortune of the outfit hence his resolve to restructure it for a better service delivery to meet with national and international standards.
