The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council has  commend the courage of the Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, over the sack of his aide, Friday Eluro involved in the physical assault of a lady. The union  also commended the Obi of Owa, HRM Dr Emmanuel Efezeimo, for stripping Eluro of his title in Owa Kingdom.

In a press release signed respectively by the Chairman of Delta state NUJ council  Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and Secreatary comrade Churchill Oyowe, said the quick action against   Friday Eluro by the duo was timely and commendable.

Part of the statement reads ‘‘The NUJ sees the swift response from the governor in terminating the appointment of his aide involved in dehumanizing a woman as true show of leadership that believes in the protection of the dignity of humanity.

‘‘The action of Eluro and his cohort calls for serious concern. It is brazen and downright insane, especially when he should be the one to live by good example by virtue of being a public office holder and one who should represents his principal in good light.

‘‘The jungle justice meted on the victim in the video that has gone viral is a happenstance that often results in the perpetrators going scot free. This is dangerous to society wellbeing. Many victims have lost their lives in the process.’’ They said.

Continuing ‘‘While the NUJ is convinced the swift action of both the governor and the Owa monarch was taken in the interest of public good, the union believes that all the perpetrators of the dastardly act, and not only Eluro, should be investigated and brought to justice as a far reaching measure to act as deterrent to others.

‘‘In addition, the action of the Owa monarch should be emulated by other traditional rulers by ensuring that chieftaincy title holders in their domains who are in the habit of causing public nuisance are sanctioned accordingly. This, in the considered view of union, will help to instill the much needed sanity in our society so urgently.’’ The statement noted.
