No fewer than nine persons were killed on Friday as gunmen attacked a village in Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue State.
This is according to the State Command of the Nigeria Police Force.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the command, DSP Moses Yamu, said: “We got information that some militia suspected to be of Shitile, attacked Tse Ujoh Village of Ikyurav-Tiev council ward where nine people were killed.”
However, three people have been arrested in connection with the killing.
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, made this known while condemning the attack.
According to his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, in a statement issued on Friday, Ortom appealed to the people of the affected area to be calm, assuring that steps had been taken to protect them.
“Governor Ortom reassured the people of the state that his administration will not allow armed militia to continue to terrorise communities.
“He encouraged anyone with information that can lead to the apprehension of the gang to contact the police, Department of State Services or the military,” the statement reads.
