The 6 Division, Nigerian Army earlier today 21 March 2022 flagged off the Division’s Inter- Brigade Corporal and Below Competition 2022 at Elele Cantonment.
The competition which is an annual event is aimed at improving the leadership qualities, organizational abilities,skills and enhance the initiative of Junior Non-Commissioned officers of the Division.
The Special Guest of Honour, Air Officer Commanding, Mobility Command AVM IH Etukudo who was represented by the COS Mobility Command AVM NI Ilo stated that the competition was anchored on the demand for high level combat efficiency which was essential in grappling with the challenges of modern warfare.
He further stated that the dynamics of military operations makes the competition necessary to engender the needed level of proficiency amongst troops.
AVM Etukudo admonished participants to put into perspective the vision of the Chief of Army Staff ” A Professional NA Ready to Accomplish Assigned Missions within a Joint Environment in Defence of Nigeria” by driving this noble vision to transform the NA into a professionally responsive force.
The General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Maj Gen OO Oluyede who was represented by Commander 16 Brigade Brig Gen OA Awolo said the competition was held at divisional levels in line with Army Headquarters training directives to retrain soldiers on skills at arms, physical fitness/combat race, combat swimming, drill and obstacle crossing.
He added that the training was to meet the challenges of the 21st century in a global effort geared towards combating crimes which pose a threat to security in Areas of Responsibility.
The GOC emphasized that a well trained soldier remains a tool as a requisite for any successful military operation,He therefore charged participants to actively participate and take the competition with all seriousness it deserves.
The competition is expected to come to an end on Friday 25 March 2022.
