Joy Akatugba on the hospital bed at Warri Central Hospital
A non-governmental organization under the auspices of Compassion Afriques, has called on government and public spirited Nigerians to come to the aide of a thirty three year old lady, Joy Akatugba to meet up with her medical bills as she has been allegedly abandoned by family members and and friends.
Joy Akatugba was picked up by a team of Compassion Afriques from where she was reportedly said to have been abandoned to die by yet to be identified persons along Refinery Road, Effurun, and taken to the Warri Central Hospital where she is currently receiving treatment on her fractured leg and system failure.
A member of the NGO, Pastor Festus Fej in a chat with our correspondent stated that the victim was brought half dead to the hospital stressing that she has greatly improved.
Fej said Akatugba’s case is that rejection stressing that,”Her family members are not showing any positive concern” noting that the medical bills is being footed by the NGO.
Proprietress of the Compassion Afrique,Pastor (Mrs.) Emmanuel Joy Azaka disclosed that the patient has been referred to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, (DELSUTH), Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area, for further treatments on “Organs failure”.
Azaka who spoke through a member of the NGO, Mrs. Elizabeth Dada said,”Akatugba’s condition has improved compared to when we picked her up.”
She added that,”One of her legs will be amputated. We need five pounds of blood for her.”
Pastor Azaka said the major challenge was the accumulated bill they have incured as a result of the treatment they have given her. She appealed to the Delta State government NGOs and public spirited individuals to come to the aide of Joy Akatugba to enable her continue her treatment,noting that she may grow up to become the wife of the next Nigerian President.
Joy Akatugba, who hails from Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, said that unknown soldiers allegedly picked her up in Sapele, beat, inflicted bodily injuries and abandoned her along the popular Refinery road in Effurun,Uvwie Local Government Area.
Akatugba stated she lied along the road for over one week until a Non-Governmental Organization,NGO, Compassion Afriques rescued and brought her unconscious to the hospital for medical treatments since December 12.
Akatugba claimed that she has been abandoned also by her family members who are resident at Reclamation Area, opposite Palmer School in Sapele.
