NDDC Executes over N6.2billion road Projects in Delta,Says MD, Nsima Ekere

WARRI- The Managing Director of NDDC, Mr Nsima Ekere has that the commission has executed over N6.2 billion road projects in Delta State.

Managing Director of NDDC, Mr Nsima disclosed this while he led some top management of the commission to perform the commissioning ceremony of the various projects  in three local government area; Warri North, Sapele and Ughelli North of the state.

Mr. Nsiama addressing the residents of Ireto, the beneficiary community in Sapele, Ekere said the overwhelming joy on the faces of the people had also justified the Federal Government reasons for creating the NDDC.

“We went to Olero creek to commission roads, what I saw there justified the federal government intervention in creating NDDC.

” A community that has never and ever seen a road before, the people that spoke said this is their first time of  seeing a car in their community for those that have not come out of the creek and I could see the joy in their faces.

“That is the same kind of joy I am seeing in your faces, it show that you appreciate the current board and management of the NDDC to intervene on the affairs that affects you directly.

“Before our intervention, this community was totally impassable but we intervened in record and I am sure that this would boost the economic activities of the people living on this long stretch of the road,” he said.

NDDC boss commended the people for the cooperation given to the contractor to complete the 3.1 kilometres road rehabilitation project on record time.

He said that the project was awarded on Nov. 29, 2016 at an approximate cost of N482 million.

Ekere urged them to continue to support the government and the commission.

Mr Thomas Akpodiete who spoke on behalf of the Ireto community thanked the NDDC for the laudable project.

He, however, appealed for the construction of drains on both sides of the road.

According to a copy of the project brief made available to journalists at the commissioning site, three roads were commissioned  in Warri North at a total cost of about N5.4 billion.

They were: the Tebu-Gbokoda in Olero creek community with a total length of 2.52 kilometres and drain of 5.04 kilometres.

Others are: the Tebu-Gbokoda-Udo road with a total length of 2.125 kilometres and drain of 4.25 kilometres.

Similarly, the Udo-Ajamita road covered a distance of 2.95 kilometres and drain of 5.9 kilometres and were all awarded to different contractors in December 2014.

Also commissioned was the reconstructed Uloho avenue road with 1.65 drainage system in Ughelli North at a cost of N312.7 million.

“We have continued to appreciate our brothers in the struggle for their continued patience and cooperation while we engage the Federal Government on ways to attend to the various issues being raised by the group.

 

“As a state, we have made several interventions to make life more meaningful for oil bearing communities especially in the area of road construction in the creeks and without the enabling peace we cannot progress in that direction.” he said.

 

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has commissioned road projects worth over 6.2 billion Naira in Delta.
