Senator James manager led a delegation to the collapsed road to the river in Tuomo
Tuomo-There is serious tension in Delta State as landslide today wreaked havoc on Tuomo as well as other Communities in Burutu Local Government
Area.
With the terrible landslide, residents are now forcefully barred from
accessing their neighbouring communities just as it has further
worsened the economic hardship on the people of the area whose major
occupations are fishing and farming.
Chairman of the Community, Hon. Prince Lafia expressed fears that hs
people are in danger as he begged for government’s attention.
The member representing the people of Delta South Senatorial District,
Sen. James Manager confirmed the development in a remark at the
empowerment programme organized by Delta based philanthropist, High
Chief Mike Loyibo.
Sen. Manager warned that if nothing is done, the Coastal Communities
maybe washed away.
While noting that the Niger Delta region is a very special and
peculiar part of Nigeria, Federal Lawmaker called on the Federal and
Delta State Governments, the Niger Delta Development Commission,NDDC
and the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to come to the rescue of the
Coastal Communities.
According to Sen. Manager, ‘‘I am aware that that this community ony
few days ago suffered a very terrible landslide. The same story goes
with so many other communities in this coastal area. Very wealthy in
oil but very little to show for it.
“I am using this opportunity to call on the NDDC, the Niger Delta
Ministry, the Delta State Government, the Federal Government of
Nigeria to be attracted to this very important community because if
nothing is done, this Community will be taken away by natural
disaster.”
