Nollywood top player, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, is coming up with a master stroke as he directs the command play of the soon-to-commence National Festival of Arts and Culture(NAFEST) to be held in Edo State.

The play, The Fall of Neki, set in 12AD, which depicts the festival theme – Our Royalty, Our Pride – is Edo State’s presentation and will be performed on the stage of the theatre hall of the rejuvenated Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre, Benin, on Monday, October 21, 2019.

The play is about the resistance put up against the reign of Oba Olua of Benin Kingdom by one Neki N’Ogbelaka, who refused to pay homage to the Oba.

In the course of the fierce battle of supremacy the Benins stood firmly by the Oba who, through his daughter’s orchestration, eventually had the upper hand.

According to Lancelot, “the team of about 60 artistes participating in the command play is a mixture of products of the Benin Film Academy(BFA) and seasoned theatre arts practitioners like Cliff Igbinovia, Tony Agboga, Ben Olaye, Andrew Osawaru, Vincent Iyekelepolor and Professor Josephine Mokwunye(former Head of Department of Theatre Arts, University of Benin) among many others.

“What a lot of people do not know about me is that I trained as a theatre arts practitioner before I ventured into film making. I have all the while being thinking of how to create jobs from live theatre. This will bring forth another era of dancers, singers, drummers etc begin to feed from their craft.”
