Socio-Economic Rights Accountability Project, SERAP, has vowed to continue the battle to ensure that the Oyo State Government adequately compensates popular musician, Yinka Ayefele over the demolition of Music House in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Ayefele owns the N800 million building.

The building houses his radio station, Fresh FM.

The Oyo State government last week partially demolished the building, saying that it contravened the law of the state.

The demolition has since attracted condemnation.

But during Ayefele’s meeting to Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State of the case during the week, the government promised to look into the matter.

It was later reported that the government has agreed to compensate Ayefele over the demolition.

In a tweet, SERAP which had threatened to go to court over the matter to ensure Ayefele was compensated said it was glad about the new development.

It said the payment of the compensation would serve as a lesson to other governments that might have a similar tendency.

SERAP however vowed that it would not stop its agitation until the compensation was paid.

The tweet reads:  “This is a welcome development, something which we have called for. It would serve as deterrence to other states/FG. Our legal options remain open. We won’t back down from this fight until adequate compensation is paid & Fresh FM building is rebuilt. @oyostategovt @AAAjimobi.”
