The National Coordinator Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, Comrade Chief Mulade,l Sheriff, mourn with the Itsekiri Nation and the family Prof. Grace Alele-Williams over her death which was announced via Queen’s College’s WhatsApp platforms, were she was an alumnus, on Friday March 25, 2022.
While consoling the family, Chief Mulade said Prof. Grace Alele-Williams was a role model for others to emulate judging from her academic excellence and good character. He said her dexterity brought pride and respect to the Itsekiri Nation, Delta state and Nigeria in general.
She was born on December 16, 1932, in Warri, Delta State, attended Government School, Warri; Queen’s College, Lagos and the University College, Ibadan, now University of Ibadan. She was a great mathematician and made history by becoming the first female doctorate degree holder in the country and also the first female vice-chancellor at the prestigious University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo State.
Chief Mulade who is also the Ibe-sorimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West, LGA, Delta State, said Late Prof. Grace Alele Williams is a gender barrier breaker in educational development as one of the best mathematicians recorded in history.
Chief Mulade encouraged Nigerians to emulate her good qualities, characters, and hospitality, while praying for God’s protection over the family and Itsekiri nation and grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.
