WARRI- Popular Broadcaster with the Delta Rainbow Television, DRTV in Warri, Mr. Godspower Omadebor on today (Wednesday) stated that he has perfected plan to resign from the services of the Delta State owned Television station following the massive looting of N9billion earmarked for building of the television station to a modern one.
He said what wondered him as a staff of the state owned television/radio station over the years is the fact that the immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan had budgeted the sum of N9billion to build the to a viable modern station. ‘‘But nothing was done with the N9 billion provided by the immediate past Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and the station remained like the ancient televisions without working microphones, video cameras and other gadgets.
Omadebor disclosed this today in Warri during his speech marking his birthday bash/15years as a broadcaster.
Omadebor who is fondly called the “Weapon of Mass Construction” said DRTV does not have microphones and video cameras inspite of the nine billion naira pumped into the state owned media by former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration.
He claimed that the incumbent administration said it want to reposition government owned media whereas the nine billion naira pumped into the system has not been accounted for.
While noting that he is not castigating the government or anyone, Omadebor stated that the system is not working.
His words “I am disillusioned and disappointed at the State owned media. I have concluded arrangements to voluntarily retire because In am tired.
“My conscience is pricking me. I am retiring so that as an outsider, I can criticize very well.”
“I cannot continue to work unproductively. We have to speak up and not pretend over it.”
Omadebor said the job of a social critic is risky especially with politicians who bear arms to frustrate their efforts but vowed to lay his life as a “Sacrificial lamb” for the entertainment industry in Delta State.
Omadebor posited that Deltans have lost the oil and the entertainment industry in Warri.
He noted further stated that the entertainment under the supervision of incumbent Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa has patronized people from Lagos to the detriment of entertainers in Delta State particularly in Warri.
According to him, with leaders and practitioners in the entertainment industry has forwarded a bill for Act to establish the Delta State Entertainment Development Agency.
He said when established, it will be Government apparatus to coordinate the activities of entertainment.
“If we have lost the oil, we cannot lost the entertainment.”
Omadebor stated that Shell Petroleum Development Company,SPDC packed out of Warri with about two hundred mini-companies because the people who ought to save the economy pretended and did nothing over it.
The veteran journalist said the absence of SPDC led to the drop in the population of Warri stressing that, “There are vacant apartments in Warri. There is littering population. Warri is no longer an oil city.”
He however lamented that the entertainment industry which is supposed to save the situation and bring Warri back to its place has been politicized by politicians.
