Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez says Manchester City will not rest on their laurels after he inspiring the team to an emphatic win against Burnley.
The speedy winger scored his first hat-trick for the Citizens in a 5-0 win against Burnley in the English Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium over the weekend.
Mahrez believes their display against Burnley will be the ideal benchmark going forward as the Citizens look to win trophies this season.
“It’s always good to score goals so I am very happy, but the most important thing was to win and create chances,” Mahrez told th club’s official website.
“We are happy to score a lot of goals and create a lot of chance. We got three points, and we keep going.
The 29-year-old player was pleased to have netted with a header against Burnely as he rarey scores with his head.
“When you play well and you don’t score in games you have a bit of frustration but we have to keep working.,” he added.
“We did keep working in training and in games to get the confidence back. Probably the last one [is my favourite goal] because I don’t score too many with my head.
“(Now) We have to take it game by game. We have a difficult game in Porto (to go) for the first place in the Champions’ League group on Tuesday so we will try to win as always.”
Mahrez has now netted four goals in seven matches in the Premier League this season.
