The university, had, earlier in the week, increased the acceptance fee pegged at N21, 000 to N31,000 and N81,000 for professional courses respectively.

It also called on the management to put on hold every payment in the institution until all contending issues are resolved.

In a press statement made available to our correspondent yesterday in Abraka, the national President of NADESSTU, Comr. Agolo Samson, warned that the association would resist every form of increment by the institutions’ management.

It read in part : ” The attention of the  National Association of Delta State Students, NADESTTU, has been drawn to the astronomical and undefined DELSU acceptance fee at a time when there is untold hardship in the country, it is insensitive and unjust for any public institution to inflate fees charges.”

” We want to state categorically that education is not a business venture, and as such, our students are not consumers, hence we urge the management of the university to rescind its decision. We condemn this 300 per cent increment in totality because it is wicked and insensitive.”

He warned that the association would not fold its arms and watch DELSU increase fees knowing full well the prevailing economic situation was bitting harder on parents and guardians in the state and country.

“We hereby issue a 48 hours total reversal ultimatum to the management of DELSU, Abraka. This ultimatum takes effect from today (October 15, 2017) and failure to reverse this astronomical fee increment, will leave us with no other option than to relocate our national secretariat to DELSU.”

The NADESSTU president insisted that the association would not condone any form of increment no matter the guise, while reaffirming the associations’ stand that “Education is a right, not a privilege.”
