JUST IN: Couple in police cell over attempt to sell their one year old baby for N150,000 in Warri

WARRI- A 20 years old woman, Blessing Precious and her 35 years old husband, Precious Akowei have been arrested by the police in Ugborikoko, near Warri  for attempting to sell their one year old baby for the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand naira. Also arrested is one, Mercy Ogunyemi,an alleged buyer of the baby.

Details as to why the couple attempted selling their own baby cannot be ascertained as the police shielded our correspondent including members of the Delta State Chapter of the Committee for the Defence of Hunan Rights led by Comrade Prince Kehinde-Taiga from speaking with the couple who were first arrested March 18 by the Enerhen Police Divisional headquarters.

The trio were however transferred by the Enerhen Divisional Police Officer,CSP Yakubu to Ugborikoko Division, the jurisdiction of the matter.

The Divisional Police Officer in  Ugborikoko,CSP Emeka referred Our Correspondent to the State Police Image Maker when he sought his views on the matter saying,”Go to Police PPRO. He will explain more to you.”

Contacted, the Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer,DSP Andrew Aniamaka confirmed the report saying,”The Police is still investigating the matter.”
DSP Aniamaka stated that the couple, “Were originally apprehended by the police in Enerhen for attempting to sell their baby in a bid to defraud the public.

According to DSP Aniamaka,”the police also arrested other persons implicated in the transaction. One Ogunyemi,the alleged buyer alongside other accomplices were apprehended. Some are on the run anyway but we do everything possible to get to the root of the matter.”
Meanwhile,the Delta State Chapter of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights,CDHR has condemned the act of the couple for over their alleged attempt to sell their one year old baby for pecuniary gains.

The Delta State CDHR Chairman,Comrade Prince Kehinde-Taiga called on the Police to do proper investigation and immediately charge and prosecute the suspects before the court as well as ensure that justice is done in the matter.
