LAGOS- The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) world-wide has frowned, and kicked against vehemently the hosting of sensitive Niger Delta programmes outside the region.

The IYC President, Barr. Oweilaemi Pereotubo gave the advice yesterday at the Niger Delta Stakeholders meeting that was organized by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme under the leadership of Prof. Charles Quaker Dokubo in Lagos.

The meeting that was organized to brief and also exchanged ideas with traditional rulers, youth leaders and other critical stakeholders about the ongoing Disarmament, Demobilisation and Rehabilitation (DDR) was held at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos.

The IYC President said that henceforth leadership of the Council will never be part of any of such meetings and events if they are held outside the Niger Delta region.

Barr. Oweilaemi Pereotubo drew the attention of the large gathering of Niger Delta leaders to the adverse implications of holding such very sensitive programmes in Lagos or any other place outside the Niger Delta region.

He first called their attention to the economic implications which he said the huge amount of money spent on transportation, feeding, accommodation and other logistics if spent in any states of the Niger Delta will go a very long way in developing our economy.

On the area of security, he said with the hosting of this strategic event in Lagos our leaders are indirectly, consciously or unconsciously justifying the conspiracy of the enemies of the Niger Delta who have painted it as a very unsafe place for investment. It also gives credence to the refusal of the oil multinationals to relocate their headquarters to the Niger Delta despite the Presidential Order and Directive for their relocation.

He added that there is no way sensitive security and secret information about were discussed will not leak out or even be in the public domain since such places are always bugged.

He concluded by advising against the above. But fortunately, his suggestions and submissions were unanimously accepted and it was resolved that henceforth every strategic, key and very sensitive events concerning our people shall be held in any of the Niger Delta states.
