The alarming exponential Community spread of Covid 19 which has assumed a monstrous dimension in Delta State, has necessitated a review of the INYA Electioneering Process, which led to the dissolution of electoral commitee and postponement of the forthcoming Isoko National Youth Assembly election.
This was made known to newsmen by one of the board of trustees of INYA Comrade Morrister Idibra after a press briefing of the Isoko Development Union on the agitation by Isoko nation to be included into the 57 oil marginal fields right of first refusal bidding.
According to him, “The review became imperative against the backdrop of the fact that the Election Delegates Selection Process ought to hold across 22 Clans and a number of Branches where all the Youths of a particular Clan or Branch must be gathered in one place to select the Delegates through lucky dip/lot Casting, as provided by Article 17:2 of the INYA Constitution as amended”
He also stated that, the noble but novel idea poses a clear and present danger to Isoko Nation collective health in this peculiar, trying and dangerous times of the ravaging Covid 19 Pandemic. Consequently, the following painfully unavoidable but patriotic decisions have been reached, after extensive consultations with all organs of INYA and other relevant Stakeholders by the Grand Patron , Chief Fred Obe.
Comrade Idibra also noted That the INYA Election slated for the 1st of August, 2020, is hereby temporarily suspended due the geometric increase in the community spread of Covid 19, while the ravaging Pandemic situation is being further assessed.
He further said that, Article 17:7 and 17: 8 of the INYA Constitution as amended shall be activated as a stop-gap , at the expiration of the Ovie Umuakpor- led administration on the 20th of August , 2020 , to forestall a vacuum in the running of INYA affairs.
“As consequence of 1& 2 above, the Electoral Committee which ought to have concluded its assignment on the 1st of August, 2020, is hereby dissolved”
He also opined that, all aspirants who bought forms for the Elections are hereby notified that the INYA Electioneering Process is only temporarily arrested in time and not absolutely aborted in perpetuity, due to the ravaging Covid 19 Pandemic.
He stated that, all aspirants and concerned stakeholders are hereby informed that an Extraordinary General Meeting of INYA shall be convened soon to discuss.
When asked if the committee was dissolved as a result of the security meeting they held with the two local government chairmen, “As a committee they have the right to attend security meeting, it was not because of that we are thinking of the safety and the well-being of our people first due to the pandemic”, he stated.
“People want to create different insinuation, the facts remain that, we cannot do anything aside the Constitution of INYA. They are saying the power giving to the Grand Patron is too much but is not different from other ethnic groups youth bodies”
He also denied that, the electoral commitee was not dissolved because of they refused to yield to the directives of the Grand Patron as it has been insinuated by people, stating that, it was the board of trustees and other organs within the INYA that dissolved the electoral committee, that, what they did is in line with the Constitution.
