Justice Benjamin Iheaka of the Owerri High court has quashed the impeachment of the state’s Deputy governor
It is jubilation galore in Owerri, the Imo state capital following the reversal of the impeachment of the Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere.
Justice Benjamin Iheaka, in a judgement that lasted about three hours on Tuesday, declared the impeachment of Eze Madumere, invalid and of no legal effect.
Reading the judgment in a tension soaked court hall filled to capacity, justice Iheaka lambasted the Chief Judge of the state, Paschal Nnadi and the Attorney General of the state, Militus Nlemadim for failing to adhere to the provisions of section 188(5) of the 1999 constitution as amended in the case of the Deputy Gov. on July 31,2018.
He said the CJ constituted the seven-man panel to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct by Madumere by the state House of Assembly outside the seven days lifeline as provided by the constitution.
