Women in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area have embarked on a peaceful demonstration in solidarity of their son, Senator Bassey Albert who is the Governorship candidate of Young Progressive party (YPP) and demanded for his release from the prison   custody.

The solidarity walk which began from the YPP Secretariat, Use Ndon to the Palace of the Paramount Ruler of Ibiono Ibom Local Government, His Royal Majesty Okuku (Dr) Ime Udo Usoro  to  Oko Ita Village and later terminated at the YPP Secretariat,  had a good number of women  in black attires  with placards with different inscriptions as ;

Stop intimidating our son, OBA is not your problem… leave him alone, the power of the people is stronger than the people in power, we deserve good governance among others.

 

Earlier, the Paramount Ruler of the Local Government, Okuku Ime Usoro, village heads and the Women converged at the Palace of His Royal Majesty for a solemn assembly to commit the affairs of the Local Government into God’s hand, prayed for His peace and the manifestation of the will of God in the 2023 general elections.

 

Addressing the gathering,  the Royal father expressed gratitude for the massive turn out for  the spiritual exercise even with short notice, saying that solidarity of such was a show of love and unity which according to him gladdens his heart.

 

Okuku Ime prayed that nothing shall by any means truncate the existing bond among the sons and daughters of the soil.

 

He urged the youth, men and women  of the area  to remain peaceful and law abiding  noting that development cannot thrive under crisis.

 

He appealed that for justice and equity to have it’s due course, Ibiono Ibom should be given it’s due right in governance and development.

 

However, His Majesty condemned the arrest and detention of  Senator Bassey Albert  noting that he cannot as a father takes delight in the travail of his son, warned the people of the area against any divisive tendency especially as 2023 general elections draw near.

 

He advised the electorates to get their permanent Voters Card ready  and vote wisely come 2023.

 

Leading the women, the former Supervisor for works and Transport, Hon  Mary Akpan on behalf of  the  Woman Leader, Akwa  UbokAbasi campaign team, Hon. Christine Akpan who was unavoidably absent said as mothers it’s grieves their hearts to have their son in detention who should be allowed to go about his lawful activities as a law abiding citizen.

 

The women advocated that political power should be used as an instrument for unity and development rather than a weapon to victimize citizens .

 

The women warned against dictatorship in Akwa Ibom, opined that governance should be devoid of sentiment and bias.

 

Following the zoning principle of Governorship in Akwa Ibom State, the women while pledging their unwavering support for the Governorship ambition of Senator Albert, said it was the turn of  Ibiono Ibom to produce the next governor of the State if Governorship zoning formula and Justice  was to be maintained.

 

Meanwhile, in an interview with some of his supporters, the Chapter Woman Leader, Young Progressive party, Idongesit Ekpe, the Female Youth President, Comfort Etim, Obongawang Kate Dan, Katherine Effiong, Hannah Akpan among other supporters reiterated their loyalty for Senator Bassey Albert.
