The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ukana in Akwa Ibom State, Dr Uduak Ukekpe has promised to rid the institution from all forms of social vices, warning both students and staffers to maintain modesty in dealing with one another.
He made the vow, when the new students’ leadership visited him in his office at the weekend saying that, his tenure as Rector would not condone any such vices like; the examination malpractice, fighting, indecent dressing, cultism and sorting for marks amongst others noting that, it does the education sector and the country any good.
The Rector, charged the students’ to be dedicated to their studies and cooperate with the management to make the institution an enviable one, assuring to create a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
Dr Ukekpe also said, he was striving to make the school under his stewardship a model Polytechnic in Nigeria.
According to him; “by the time I leave this Polytechnic as a Rector, it will be seen as a model in Nigeria.
”We are working hard to develop the infrastructure; we are embarking on staff development and welfare, as well as acquisition of modern equipment.
”We are carrying out reforms to guarantee the institution operates optimally. By 2020/2021 academic year, we will have more programmes and more students. That is the reason we go for the best in anything we do’’.
Earlier, the Chairman, Students’ Caretaker Committee, Mr Blessing Akpan commended the Rector’s performance in administering the institution since assumption of office, and expressed optimism that, his tenure would bring forth a season of academic excellence in the institution
He assured the Rector of their readiness to cooperate and support the management in transforming the institution adding that, they looked forward to seeing the introduction of more programmes and commencement of Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in the nearest future to boost her corporate image.
