I will give priority to security, development, says Lyon

The Governor-elect of Bayelsa State, Chief David Lyon has affirmed his commitment to priority attention to the protection of lives and property of citizens as well as that of the overall development of the state.

Lyon made this known while receiving the certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

According to the Governor-elect, his administration will ensure that there is peace so that investment and development would thrive, promising never to disappoint Bayelsans.

 

He assured Bayelsans that monies accruing to the state will not be diverted into private pockets but would be used judiciously for the betterment of the people.

 

“Today, we are signing contract with Bayelsans. We should understand that David Lyon and the APC are signing a contract and that contract is to develop Bayelsa State, that contract is to bring peace so that investment and development Wii thrive in the state.

 

” I want to thank the people of Bayelsa State for their trust and support. I assure everyone, that my dream of building a better and prosperous Bayelsa State will be a reality. Everyone will be carried along irrespective of where we come from and party we belong to.

 

“My arms will be wide open to everyone who desire it. Bayelsa will be great again in our time. All we need is your continued support and collaboration in making it happen”, he add.

 

In her remarks, the National Commissioner supervising Bayelsa, Edo and Rivers, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu said the presentation of certificate of return to the winner of every election conducted by INEC is in compliance with the provision of section 75 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2019 (as amended).

 

Agbamuche-Mbu expressed delight that elections conducted on the 16th of November was peaceful, free, fair, credible and violence free and commended the candidates, electorates and other critical stakeholders for their peaceful disposition and examplary display of maturity all through the elections.

 

She appreciated other National Commissioners, RECs,  the staff and  management of other state offices of the Commission deployed for the election as well as the headquarters Abuja for the collaborative effort to ensure success.

 

She thanked the Police, the DSS, Civil Defence, the Army, Navy and other security agencies for their collective effort and cooperation for the resounding success recorded in the just concluded November 16 governorship election.

 

In his welcome address, the Bayelsa State Resident Electoral Commission (REC), pst. Monday Udom expressed joy over the successful conclusion of the elections and appreciated the Commission, security agencies, traditional rulers, journalists, CSOs, NGOs, Faith based organisations and the electorates for their cooperation and collaboration to ensure a successful elections.

 

Udom while congratulating the winner, David Lyon urged him to be magnanimous in victory and losers to be gallant in defeat.
