A principal suspect in the massive fraud which is currently rocking Ekiti State University, (EKSU), Ado Ekiti running to several billions of naira has eloped.
An investigation by our correspondent revealed that the fraud was perpetrated between January and July this year through manipulation of the institution’s portal.
It was gathered that the runaway staff of the institution, who was a staff in charge of the portal used the system to divert money paid into the university’s account to another one.
Before the deal was botched, not less than two billion naira belonging to EKSU has been siphoned into private accounts of those involved in the deal.
Attempt by the management of the university to unravel those behind the fraud has been frustrated following the escape of the principal suspect who is said to be a junior staff in charge of the portal.
From our investigation, the fraud was perpetrated after Prof Oye Bamidele was removed as the vice Chancellor by Governor Kayode Fayemi.
A panel set up by the management of the university to investigate those fingered in the deal, including a Prof, aspiring for the position of the vice Chancellor, could not conclude its investigation following the escape of the principal suspect.
Effort to get some of the principal officers of the university to comment on the fraud allegation was unsuccessful as some of them insisted that their comment may likely be prejudicial to the findings of the panel.
