The Mid-Westerners, a Socio-political pressure group has called on the people of the old Midwestern region to arise and vote enmasse for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that had Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as it’s Vice Presidential candidate in the forthcoming general elections.

The group made the call at a news briefing presided over by it’s chairman, Mr Iwemdi Nwaham on Wednesday in Warri, Delta State.

Mr Nwaham who was flanked by his vice chairman, Prof. David Ejenobo and Mr Fidelis Chimokwu (secretary) lamented that the old Midwestern region which comprised Edo and Delta States had suffered marginalisation in the nation’s political space since it’s creation in 1963.

According to him, the choice of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP was one of the greatest things that had happened to the region politically and urged the people to support him.

The group’s chairman also said that Okowa had paid his dues in the political trajectory of Nigeria
adding that he had gannered a National honour of CON and other numerous awards across the six geo-political in the country because of his contribution to the growth and development of Delta State in particular and Nigeria in general.

“Okowa is from the old Midwestern region. A region that has not tasted elective political office at the presidential level since it’s creation in 1963. That means in the 60 years of it’s existence, nobody from the old Midwestern region has been elected either as President of Vice President of Nigeria.

“This is marginalisation. We plead with the Nigerian nation, particularly our brothers and sisters in the other regions to please allow us to taste of this office for the first time in the history of Nigeria. A vote for the PDP should be seen as a vote for Senator Okowa and the people of the old Midwestern region.

“We call on all sons and daughters of the old Midwestern region to rise up with one voice to vote for PDP, the only party that has given us the once-in-life time opportunity,” he said.

Nwaham urged the political class in the country to take careful note of the wide acceptance of the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar in all his campaign across the length and breadth of the country.

“There is no doubt that Nigerians are fed up with the eight years disasters of the APC government, a vote for Atiku is a vote for Okowa,” he said

The chairman reminded that Delta State had been a PDP ruling state since 1999 and appealed to the people to vote for all the Party’s candidates in the forthcoming general elections.

“The three governor’s who had ruled this during these period have not disappointed us. Let us vote PDP candidates in all the elections at both the state and the national levels,” he said

Nwaham said that Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the PDP Governorship candidate in Delta State was a Godsend to continue from where Senator Okowa would stop on May 29, 2023 adding that he had the capacity and capability to lead the state forward.
