A Non governmental organization under the aegis of Niger Delta Activists Group and Excellent Leadership Foundation has alleged that National Assembly of arm-twisting the interim management committee from carrying out the Forensic Audit of Niger Delta Development Commission as being directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The group alleged that the National Assembly inserted 500 projects on the 2019 budget of the Commission, adding that constant political blackmail, intimidation and harassment of NDDC committees rendering the Commission not to commission projects in the region.
Chief Izzi Yakiah, National Coordinator of the group said the interim management committee of the NDDC has not awarded any contract except Covid-19 Intervention Fund approved by President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that Professor Kemebradikumo Daniel Pondei led committee evenly distributed funds and palliatives to all the mine states made up the region.
The group stated this in a news conference held in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa state, Chief Yakiah noted that the National Assembly was not sincere, thorough and operate due diligence in discharging their oversight function, adding “The ordered FORENSIC AUDIT of the commission which will possibly indict past administratorss and Notable Politicians, and some present Senators who have eaten fat on the Commission”.
Chief Yakiah called on Niger Delta people to look inward and discourage the apex legislative arm committees on NDDC headed by. Hon. Peter Nwaboashi, and Hon. Olubumi Tunji-Ojo from the continued blackmail of Professor Kemebradikumo Daniel Pondei Interim Management Committee and advised to channel their legislative oversight function towards the North-East Development Commission which was been operating without any distraction since it was established.
In achieving the Commission’s lofty goals and objectives, Chief Yakiah noted that Prof. Pondei led commission has effectively collaborated with the Senator Godswill Akpabio led Niger Delta Affairs ministry, which has led to the timely completion of 89 percent of the Commission’s National Secretariat in Port-Harcourt, an edifice that was abandoned for 23 years.
He advised Niger Delta people to desist from the culture of pull-down syndrome against its leaders as well as key government parastatals that were set-up to enhance human capacity in ending the long sufferings of Niger Delta people.
