More staffers of Akwa Ibom Government House are allegedly tested positive to the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic, as Governor Udom Emmanuel was said to have ordered aggressive testing of workers at Hill Top Mansion on Monday.
A source at Government House who craved anonymity dropped the hint to newsmen saying, the governor who was perplexed by the upsurge amongst the workers ordered massive testing of people within the area.
According to the source, “it will shock you that within two days we have recorded between 17 to18 cases respectively.
“Both domestic staff, protocol, security and others working in Government House were on the orders of the governor subjected to test, and most of them turned out positive”.
This is even as some members of the Press Corps had tested positive to the virus last month, and were all quarantined at Ibom Specialist Hospital for 14 days.
While others, who had contacts with them were traced and followed up for two weeks.
He lamented that, the number of infected persons within Government House revealed how unsafe the people may be noting that, if those close to the Governor may have the opportunity to be tested and treated, what happens to those who does not have such opportunity?
Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Udoh reportedly denied the incident saying that, members of the State Incidence Management Committee and staffers at Government House did not test positive.
He was quoted as saying, “Ekerette Udoh, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor is not positive, the Secretary to the State Government is not positive and these are the people that we meet everyday.
“Dr Akpabio, the Governor’s personal physician and Dr Nathaniel Adiakpan, the Permanent Secretary Government House are not positive, and as far as I am concerned, no Commissioner has tested positive”.
