The 1st Vice Chairman, Delta State Traditional Rulers’ Council and King of Akugbene-Mien,
HRM Luke Pere Kalanama VIII said the leadership style of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had proved satisfactory two years after his election and noted that Deltans made the right choice.
Reflecting on Governor Oborevwori’s administration since he took over office in 2023, in an interview,the Pere of Akugbene- Mein Kingdom in Bomadi local government area said he has “fared well managing Delta with all its complexities” as a multi ethnic entity.
The Ijaw monarch said the state has made significant progress in infrastructure development and witnessed peace and security.
The Pere of Akugbene-Mien noted that “apart from building critical amenities across the state ,the coming of the governor had reduced insecurity like armed robbery and kidnapping,making life peaceful for Deltans”.
Pere Kalanama VIII said Oborevwori possessed strength of character and disclosed that he has known him since 2011 when he was Special advisor to the Governor on land security,rising to become the longest- serving Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly and governor.
“Governor Oborevwori has accomplished much constructing bridges and roads here and there. We can see his huge efforts in Warri and some other major cities. Drainages are being put in place to safeguard Delta from heavy flooding.
“We commend the governor and expect him to do more. He is trying in the riverine Delta.We look forward to greater attention in the riverine areas.To address the needs and aspirations of those who live in the difficult terrain with development challenges.
“We are confident that the establishment of the Directorate of Riverine Infrastructure,
headed by a Commissioner, Chief Ebikeme Clerk will address the concerns of the riverine communities with the signing into law of the 2025 budget.
” A lot has been achieved on security. We can say that Delta is calm under Oborevwori.Violent crimes of robberies and abductions have gone down.
“In human capital development he has done very well. I score him 90% because the state government has helped so many people with different empowerment programmes.
“I was privileged to be a guest at the graduation ceremony of a skill acquisition scheme set up last year DESOPADEC,the interventionist agency charged with developing Delta oil producing communities. Many youths got assistance to grow their businesses and talents.
“Those living with disabilities have also benefited and some of them testified that from the time the government of Sheriff engaged them they have stopped street begging and of course with the modest salary that gets to them monthly, they are able to feed.
” Let me state that having known Sheriff closely, I am not surprised with his governance model. He a frank and bold.He is a man of sincere conviction.He says his mind without reservation.He keeps his promises and never pledges what he cannot do. Deltans chose a good governor and I am sure he won’t disappoint in leadership” The Pere of Akugbene- Mien stated.
