Group managing director of the Nigerian national petroleum corporation (NNPC) Dr. Maikanti  Baru is optimistic that Federal University Petroleum Resources (FUPRE)  graduates Effurun (near Warri) in Delta State would boost the nation’s industrial manpower development as well as play a key transformation role in the industry.

Dr. Baru disclosed in a lecture at the University campus in its second convocation ceremony under the topic ‘‘ The role of petroleum University in bridging the gab between industry and academia for sustainable growth and economic  development’’ noted that the ‘‘institution of learning will continue to breed top-rated graduates and professionals that are prepared to play a transformation role in the industry, businesses and the academia’’

He said that the administration under President Muhammadu Buhari  has directed the NNPC  to intensify exploration campaign in all nooks and crannies of the nation including the inland basins, noting that the idea would enable the nation to discover new hydrocarbon reservists oil and gas production and extend the economic benefits to Nigerians.

His words.  For us in Nigeria, oil and Gas remains critical to the Nigerian economy of today and the future. It is key for the successful implementation of our budgets at all levels of governments. Generally in Nigeria, collaboration between the academia  and the industries is weak. The  Academia and the industry have maintained different perspectives nd expectations which often create a gab between the duo. This gab has been considered by many stakeholders as the reason for declining innovation, low productivity and poor economic growth.

‘‘ Production collaboration between industries and academia would therefore require open innovative strategies to facilitate cross-fertilization of ideas. Access to knowledge and industry best practices’’ he said.

In his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor  A.O Akii Ibhadode who was represented by the deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor  Prekeyi Tawari Funfeyin expressed gratitude to God for the actualization and successful convocation of graduates for the second time.

The Don thanked all those who were present at the lecture session of the convocation, especially the Group managing director of NNPC , Maikanti K. Baru and his entourages as well as other captains of industries across the nation to celebrate with them.

Prof. Ibhadode asserted that they believed in President Muhammadu Buhari educational developments across the nation’s institutions and are convinced strongly that Mr. President would carry out the enormous challenges before the academic governing council of the great new institution to make it a top class University in Africa. Commending Mr. President of  the success in his second tenure  Presidential electoral victory.
