Barring any last minute administrative lapses, the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, (FUOYE), will as from next academic session commence a full time law degree programme in addition to the existing courses.
Already, the university has completed a building that will accommodate the faculty of law while experienced lecturers are being recruited to kick start the law programme.
The institution, with the motto “Innovation and Character for National Transformation,” was established along with others in 2011 by the administration of former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.
It has several accredited courses in agriculture,engineering, science, technology, arts, management and social sciences.
It was learnt that the location, virile management which makes the interest of workers and students priority, as well as cooperation from the host community, are the perquisites for its thrive in infrastructural and academic feats.
Equally support from TETFUND, a financial intervention agency, FUOYE enjoys motorable network of link roads, befitting lecture theatres as well as administrative and hostel accommodation for its students.
The present management of the institution, headed by Prof Soremekun, as the third vice chancellor, enjoys cordial working relationship with workers and students unions, which has reduced crisis and incessant closure of the institution.
With astronomical rise in students population, the university has commenced work on the phase three site, which is expected to provide more hostel accommodation for the students especially when the law programme takes off.
Investigations revealed that there are close to 20,000 undergraduates presently at the university, which operates another campus in Ikole Ekiti.
Its information technology centre is among those being used by the Joints Admission and Matriculation Board, (JAMB) is its examination nation centre in Ekiti state
