Comrade Akpokona Omafuaire
WARRI- A senior media practitioner and House of representative aspirant from the Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal constituency Comrade Akpokona Omafuaire has tasked communities to recruit and train their able-bodied youths against the killers Fulani herdsmen menace in their villages in Delta states.
Omafuaire made this disclosure while reacting to barbaric killings carried out by Fulani herdsmen in different parts of the country. He was angered particularly when Fulani herdsmen on Sunday(yesterday) attacked three persons, raped and injured farmers in the forest at Ovwor-Olomu in Ughelli South Local Government of Delta State.
His words ‘‘ My dear colleagues, permit me to address you on the persistent and spreading heinous crimes being committed unabated by the Fulani herdsmen in our communities.We wake up yesterday to the grievous news of Fulani herdsmen attacking and inflicting serious injuries on three persons and raping one at Ovwor-Olomu.
‘This act is satanic and repugnant, it is condemnable in all ramification. We hereby call on the state government and the federal government to live up to its duty of protection of lives to forestall the people from resorting to self-help. We also use this medium to call on the leadership of the communities to be alert to avert such occurrences. It is unacceptable that our people will be raped in their own land’’ he noted
Omafuaire who is the current Chairman of Warri correspondents Chapel of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) also described the impunity of the Fulani herdsmen is nothing but leadership failure, ‘‘This act would have been nipped in the bud if those saddled with the responsibility of law making put up adequate law to regulate the activities of these blood sucking murderers.
‘‘This is one issue I must tackle with all equanimity if elected to the green chamber, government see protection of oil pipelines more important than that of human lives, we shall reverse this trend when I get there.
‘‘Finally, I sympathize with the families of those that are injured and raped, we also urged them not to take the law into their hands as we call on the police authorities to fish out those responsible for this dastardly act.’’ He admonished.
