The Federal Government is to promote economic growth, create jobs and generate wealth through small and medium businesses to alleviate poverty in Nigeria.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr Edet Sunday Akpan, stated this during the 11th National Council on Industry, Trade and investment in Uyo.
The Permanent Secretary said that government cares for her citizens not to experience poverty despite the economic meltdown, by pursuing the mandate of boosting micro, small and medium enterprises as engine of economic development in the country.
According to him, ”It is a fact, the small and medium scale enterprises, as engine of growth contributing almost half of Nigeria’s gross domestic products GDP in realization of this positive impact, the government has put in place various measures toward strengthening small and medium businesses a bedrock of industrialization, job creation and poverty alleviation in Nigeria”
He commended stakeholders in the sector for coming out massively to deliberate issues that will bring positive results in the sector.
Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Industry, Prince Ukpong Akpabio said the conference would assist to discover lapses where they will improve small and medium businesses to alleviate poverty in Nigeria.
He thanked the participants and let them know Akwa Ibom is an industrial heaven.
