FG engages private medical practitioners to treat COVID-19

The medical director of St. Athanasius Hospital, Dr Emmanuel Akpan-obong commended Federal Government ideology of giving accreditation to private medical practitioners to involve in treating Covid-19 pandemic that is ravaging the entire globe.

The medical director of St. Athanasius Hospital, Dr Emmanuel Akpan-obong made the commendation while speaking with media practitioners in Uyo, over federal government to facilitate treatment of Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Emmanuel Akpan-obong said the accreditation is a welcome development but should critically look for isolated centres at the hospital to achieve their purpose meant for. While also acknowledge that testing and provision of drugs to the affected Covid-19 patients is very important despite creating isolated centres for the affected patients not to cause spreading of the disease while other patients in the hospital should be taken to another department for safety.

He suggest that all the doctors, nurses, journalists and those concerned should be tested irrespective of their position understanding Covid-19 pandemic is no respected of any individual while also made it clear that private doctors that are involved to treat the virus are also risking their lives because of the passion they have for their profession, as the have signed to save humanity.

The Medical Director believed that as professionals they would bring their world of experience to succeed with their colleagues in fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic as all necessary kits and equipment brought to them would go a long way to achieve and eradicating the pandemic.

He advised that National Commission for Disease Control should try as a matter of urgency to decentralize the testing centres to all the states or zones which would assist to facilitate the treatment as they follow due process on the affected covid-19 patients.

He commended Akwa Ibom government for their effort without relenting to fight the covid-19 pandemic, make sure the state experience and witness pandemic free State while advise citizens to always put on their face masks and especially wash their hands and sanitize them in maintaining social distance.
