The former Chairman of Yenagoa Local Government Area Chief Hon. Chubby Ben-Walson has dragged the leadership of peoples Democratic party in Bayelsa State to a State High Court to recover N85 million the party owes him for rent of its party Secretariat located along Sani Abacha road,Yenagoa.
The legal adviser to the landlord, Mr.Kelvin Ejelonu said, the debt amount to N85 million for eight years, noting that PDP only paid rent of N75 million from 2008 to 2010.
Mr.Ejelonu stated that series of letters had been written to PDP but none was responded by the party.
According to him, a legal action has since been instituted against the PDP in March 27, 2019 for failing to meet up its rent since 2010.
“The PDP’s failure to respond made Mr Ben-Walson instituted a legal action against the party in Suit No: YHC/50/2019 seeking the judgement of the court to compel PDP to pay up the arrears and the interest accrued thereof.
“Since the matter was filed, the PDP has refused to appear in court or sent representative,” Ejelonu said.
He further explained that the actions of the PDP shows that the party do not have a defence and urge the party to pay up its rent.
Justice T.I. Cocodia in his ruling, urged both parties to go and settle out of the court for peace to reign.
