WARRI-The Ijaws of Warri North Local government Area, Delta State have appealed to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa to passionately beg Itsekiri political leaders, especially ex-Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and Michael Diden to concede the position of the council Chairman for the Egbema people, decrying that over 26 years, the Ijaws in Warri North have not ruled the council as chairman.

The Egbema People in a position paper at the end of a  stakeholder meeting by the leadership of the Ijaws of Warri North LGA and signed by Chief Edmond Doyah, Hon. Joel Bisina and Pastor Philip Gbasin, lamented that the Ijaws in Warri North are in perpetual political slavery in the hands of their neighbours, the  Itsekiri Ethnic Nationality for over 26 years with only the Itsekiri producing the council’s chairmanship position and House of Assembly, including other to top appointments.

They  urged the governor Okowa to critically look at the age long injustice by bringing justice, peace, fair play  and harmonious relationship to the council area with impartiality.

The position paper rejected a negotiation committee set by the State government to look into the age long political crisis for the Ijaws of Warri North.

The Egbema people  urge His Excellency, Dr.  Ifeanyi Okowa not to preside over this age long injustice and to prevail on the Itsekiri Political leadership in Warri North especially Dr. Udughan and Hon. Michael Diden to concede the Chairmanship of the Council to the Ijaw of Egbema.

The stakeholders  resolution paper reads in parts ”Warri North LG council area of Delta state held a meeting of all stakeholders from the Egbema extraction in Warri Delta State to review the political situation in Warri North and after extensive discussion resolved as follows : Reaffirming the 13th October Resolution of The Egbema people On the Warri North Leadership Crisis. We do, hereby reaffirm the Egbema position:

”That it is the turn of the Egbema people to produce the next Council Chairman after ’26 Years of waiting’; Whereas our open letter to His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State published on Page 25 of the Vanguard of October 27th, 2017 is to call on the Governor to ensure justice and equity to the Egbema people and ensure that the template presented to him is adhered to for future elections; Whereas since the creation of the Council no person from Ijaw extraction of Egbema Kingdom has been chairman of Council, commissioner of the State Executive Council and the Constituency representative at the State House of Assembly;

”Be it resolved that the only Constituted authority to negotiate political power Arrangement in Egbema as at today, is the 7 man Egbema Dialogue Committee’ That no group or person has power to speak for the Egbema people other than the committee. Be it resolved that we reaffirms unequivocally that any other representation is not from the Egbema people. On this note, we urge His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa not to preside over this age long injustice and to prevail on the Itsekiri Political leadership in Warri North especially Dr. Udughan and Hon. Michael Diden to concede the Chairmanship of the Council to the Ijaw of Egbema. ’’ the statement clarified.
