Education as been described as a vital tool needed by youths in attaining self reliant.
Education provides knowledge in shaping the personality of the youth of a nation.
This was the view of an environmentalist comr. Morris Alagoa while delivering a key note address during the Annual National Convention, of Federated Union of Southern Ijaw Students, with the theme: “Education the Panacea for Rehabilitating SILGA’’.
Morris Alagoa noted that education contributes to individual capability in managing quality of life. It can help one’s individual to avoid from poverty, stressing that education is the key to move in the world, seek better jobs and ultimately succeed in life.
Alagoa said, education remains the building block for succesful life, stressing that they must shun cultism, thuggery, pipe line vandalism, rape and other social vices that will truncate their future.
According to Alagoa “Therefore it is through education that the daughter of a peasant farmer can become a doctor, that the son of a mile worker can become the head of the mile.
“Education is light; not acquiring it is likened to being sentenced to remain in some kind of darkness.
“As a concerned indigene of Southern Ijaw, I am very disturbed as to why the local government producing the highest volume of crude oil and gas in the state has remained so underdeveloped and neglected.
“No local government has oil facilities and Multinational Oil Companies operating in the environment like Southern Ijaw; none.
“The neglect Southern Ijaw is suffering should spur us to seek ways of getting over our current challenges,’’ he said.
