Hon. Frank Okiye who was recently appointed as the Speaker, Edo stateHouse of Assembly, EDHA, under very questionable circumstances, has
said that he is not sure of the level of acceptability of him as
Speaker of the legislative arm of the state by the people of Edo
state, as all the congratulatory message cards he has thus far
received, is only a façade that may be covering up the real fact.

Responding to an interview he granted pressmen recently, Okiye said;
‘…these cards you are seeing, may not be a reflection of my acceptance
as the Speaker. Even your enemies can send you congratulatory
messages, while deep down in their heart, they are not your friend…’
Okiye, who said he is caught up in the battle of titans, and being hit
by stray bullets, also added that, the tutorials he has thus far gone
through in his leadership cadre will see him through.
In a related development, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, in a
meeting held with the head of the security outfit of the state
recently, read out the riot act to individuals and groups who he said
are bent on causing trouble and disrupting public peace. In a
statement, the Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy,
Mr. Crusoe Osagie, said; ‘…the council declared that, the security
apparatus in the state will stop at nothing to bring to justice
anybody who foment trouble, and will rely on the law to prosecute
anybody found wanting…’
In view of the position of Mr. Godwin Obaseki as reported above, some
Edo people are beginning to ask why the governor of the state is
retorting to selective justice, as his government has failed to bring
to book the horde of thugs backed by the police, who went to harass
and intimidate elected members of EDHA recently in Golden Tulip Hotel,
Benin, where cash and items belonging to the honorable members were
stolen, and Hotel properties vandalized.
As the political impasse in Edo state gathers momentum by the day, and
events continue to unfold, Edo people are anxiously waiting to see the
end of the ‘movie’.
