Hundreds of peaceful demonstrating youths in Delta state on Wednesday morning at NDDC gate Warri, have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint a substantive chairman and managing director of Niger Delta development commission (NDDC) from Delta state.
The protesting youths drawn from Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo , Isoko and Ndokwa ethnic nationalities led by the national President of the Ijaw youth council (IYC) Barr. Eric Omare have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint a substantive Chairman and managing director of NDDC from Delta state, following an existing NDDC act of rotation.
‘‘We are here to send a strong message to President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint the substantive NDDC chairman and managing director following the NDDC from Delta state. That all the states that made the NDDC act have benefited from the Chairman and managing director positions. It will be logical following alphabetical order to give the chairman and managing director to Delta state.
‘‘ Why we want both the chairman and managing director of NDDC board appointment, Delta state produces the largest quantum of oil/Gas production in Niger Delta and it will be logical to start with Delta state with both top position appointment. We want to set a precedence with the NDDC appointment. When their tenure expires, the same thing will be applicable to other states’’ he said.
Corroborating the Ijaw youth Council (IYC) President’s position, the national president Urhobo youths council( UYC) comrade Festus Igherebuo, national vice chairman Itsekiri youth council (IYC) Comrade Godwin Utieyin and national President Isoko youth assembly(INYA) comrade Umuakpo Ovie, said that ‘‘ Mr. President should appoint a substantive NDDC Chairman and managing director from Delta state to allow the existing peace continue in the state. It will be logical to appoint a Delta state man for the position of NDDC Chairman and managing director following an existing rotational act of the commission’’ they said.
