ASABA-The Delta State Council of traditional rulers has embarked on an aggressive grassroots advocacy designed to sensitize the people on the importance of the Permanent Voter’s Card to the conduct of a free, fair and credible electoral process.
In a 4 point communiqué issued at the end of the meeting of the contact committee of the council at the Palace of the Chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor the second, the Royal fathers said the advocacy had become inevitable in order to promote a more participatory electoral process and encourage eligible Nigerian to perform their Civic responsibility.
While saying that the initiative was their own way of deepening democracy in the country, the Royal fathers directed their subjects who are 18 years and above to register and obtain their permanent voter’s card within the next six (6) weeks.
The Royal fathers said at the end of the six weeks duration, the Council would embark on another phase of the advocacy which would be tagged “operation show your PVC” round the various communities and kingdoms in Delta State.
The traditional rulers also harped on the need for Deltans to take the issue of National Identity Card seriously adding that the National Identity Card had become a means of identifying Nigerians and a necessity to obtain travel documents such as visa.
The Traditional Rulers also decried the worsening security situation in the country occasioned by the endless herdsmen attack on innocent and law abiding Nigerians and called for a more proactive and decisive military action to stem the tide.
The Royal fathers condemn the recent kidnap and release of a traditional ruler in Aniocha North Local Government Area and underscore the need for Monarchs to be security conscious and alert at all times.
Earlier the chairman of the council Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor the second expressed appreciation to the members of the council for their show of love and support during the burial of his late wife Queen Victoria Efeizomor.
Other traditional rulers including the first Vice chairman and Orhodje of Okpe, Orhue 1 and the Ovie of Agbon Kingdom Ukori the first, commended the inspiring leadership initiatives of the chairman and pledged their total support for the implementation of the programme which they described as laudable.
Also in attendance were selected traditional rulers from the three senatorial districts including the second vice chairman and Pere of Akugbene-Mien, SP Luke Kalanama the 8th monarch.
