* Warri South Council to host Economic Summit

WARRI-As killings by herdsmen heightens and use of fake and adulterated liquor escalate with dire consequences in different parts of the country, the Warri South local Government Council boss, Hon. Michael Tidi has inaugurated a 14-member committee to address the menace of herdsmen /farmer clash and killings before it gets to the council area of Delta state.
Inaugurating the committee, Hon. Tidi said the council decided to adopt a proactive measure to stem the ugly trend instead of taking reactionary action, saying “that is medicine after death”.
The Council boss who decried the increasing incidences of drug abuse and its effects on Nigerian youths also frown at the preponderances of fake drugs and adulterated liquor in the Nigerian market, noting that to protect the youths who are the leaders of tomorrow there is the dire need to put measures in place to curb and check the use of drugs and consumption of illicit liquor.
Hon. Michael Tidi who is the Chairman of the Herdsmen/Farmer committee tasked members of both committees on the need to meet regularly to address issues relating to and arising from herdsmen and farmers in the council area and make recommendations to government.
He charged the Fake drugs and adulterated liquor committee headed by Deacon Shola Mese to tackle the menace caused by drug abuse in conjunction with the relevant security agencies and that they must discharge their responsibility within the confines of the law, even as he admonished them to always work with the lawyer, Chief Robison Ariyo, in the committee so as not to run foul of the law.
Members of both Committees were drawn from all the Security agencies in the Warri South council, youths leaders and community elders.
In another related development, the executive Chairman of Warri South Council Area of Delta State, Hon. Michael Tidi has said that the need to re-energize the socio-economic life of the Oil City through identifying growth and profit centres like the moribund Maritime business is the key objective of hosting the Warri Economic Summit 2018 tagged “Warri Rising” in partnership with the other organizations.
He said the summit is also aimed at drawing national and International attention to the economic and security challenges attendant on the non-dredging of the Warri river to allow bigger vessel free passage to the Warri Port.
A statement signed by E.O.Jakpa, Chairman, steering Committee on behalf of the group revealed that expert and professionals in various of business have been penciled to deliver papers on key areas of business to be held from 17-18 May at Cedar Event Centre, along Airport road, Warri.
Among key speakers at the event include Chief Daniel Okumagba, a seasoned banker and the former Director-General of NIMASA, Barr. Omatseye a seasoned Maritime business expert.
The statement added that they are committed to the revival of Warri as the economic hub of the Niger Delta with participants from the Presidency, Diplomatic Corps, Policy makers, Corporate organization, Traditional rulers and Civil Society Groups.
