Police operatives in Akwa Ibom state have apprehended no fewer than 121 suspects alleged to have violated the regulatory framework put in place to guide residents on how to safeguard their lives against being infected by the dreaded Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Imohimi Edgal, at the weekend, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Nnudam Frederick, a Police Chief Superintendent, said the culprits were rounded up in different parts of the state.
He said the 121 persons apprehended and detained at the Command Headquarters at Ikot Akpanabia, near Uyo, the state capital, would be tried in special courts, vowing that those found guilty would be made to face sanctions in line with the COVID-19 regulations.
“The Akwa Ibom state Command in a bid to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in line with the provision of the Quarantine and Restrictions of Movement (second amendment) regulations, 2020, has arrested 121 violators.
“The arrested offenders will be arraigned in the special courts established in the three Senatorial Dstricts of Uyo, Ikot Ekpene and Eket, to serve as deterrent to orders”, he stated.
The Police chief therefore warned residents to be guided in their actions to avoid contracted the ailment, even as he asked the people to cooperate with security agencies to contain the pandemic.
