COVID-19: Ijaw Youth leader urges Gov.Okowa to extend isolation centers in riverine communities

A youth leader in the Niger Delta, Comrade Tare Philip Magbei has tasked the Delta state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa  to make adequate measures in place to curb the spread of the Coronavirus in coastal areas of the state,


The Personal Assistant to the Deputy Speaker of the Ijaw Youth Council Mobile Parliament, particularly called for the cittation of isolation centres within the areas to provide immediate attention in the wake of suspected cases.

He said the need for sensitization as many in the areas are unaware of the pandemic nor do they know the level of havoc the virus can cause.

His words “As a regular in the coastal areas, I can state the obvious need for proper sensitization as there is a great level of unawareness in the region,” he

”Our political office holders from the region to distribute preventive materials like face masks and hand sanitizers to the people, to help fight the spread of the virus.

“This is a time for politicians to prove to the people that they have them at heart. They should front the distribution of face masks and hand sanitizers to help fight the spread of Covid-19.”

Magbei who also doubled as the president of the National Union of Obotebe Students, NUOS further tasked traditional rulers and community leaders to ensure social distancing is enforced in their communities.

“Our traditional and community leaders should ensure social distancing is enforced. Large gatherings should be put under check. Burials and other ceremonies should be put on hold as well,” he added.

He further said that government alone cannot fight the spread, hence called on citizens to abide by the preventive measures recommended by the World Health Organization.
