Oweilaemi asserted that the Maritime University, in Okerenkoko, Delta State is a key project that will touch the lives of the people positively. He expressed optimism that the struggle for a better deal encapsulated by the founding fathers of IYC was gradually coming to reality.
According to the factional IYC boss, ‘‘ In the history of the Nigerian State, the Maritime varsity sited at Okerenkoko is the only federal institution that has direct impact and meant to better the educational development of the creek dwellers.
“Federal infrastructure sited in the ‘heart’ of the creeks of Niger Delta is only oil exploration facilities, which due to the Land Use Decree had impoverished and deprived Niger Delta people of their rights.” Pereotubo commended Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for advising and leading the Federal Government team to the temporary site of the institution at Kurutie in achieving this landmark height for the Ijaw, Deltans and Nigerians at large.
He appealed to the Federal Government to redirect the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, to either commence its NIMASA Science and Technical College, Okoloba in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State or convert it to one of the campuses of Maritime University, Okerenkoko.
