The Executive Chairman of Burutu Local Government, Dr. Julius Takeme, has praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their selfless contributions to the unity and survival of the nation.
In his address today, marking Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Dr. Takeme described the military as “superheroes” who fought tirelessly to ensure the nation’s strength and unity.
He specifically acknowledged the sacrifices made during the Nigerian Civil War, highlighting the bravery of soldiers and security forces who fought relentlessly to preserve the nation’s sovereignty.
Dr. Takeme emphasized that Armed Forces Remembrance Day serves as a solemn occasion to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in various conflicts, including the First and Second World Wars, as well as the Nigerian Civil War.
“These gallant men and women of the armed forces gave their lives to protect our nation’s sovereignty. Their patriotism and bravery will forever remain in our hearts,” he stated.
In a show of appreciation for the efforts of the legionnaires, the council chairman distributed cash gifts and food items to them.
I Chairman of the Legionnaires in Burutu Local Government, Colonel Eric Jombo (Rtd), in his response, expressed deep appreciation to the Executive Chairman for his support, noting that such gestures had never been seen before in Burutu. He also prayed for God’s continued guidance for Dr. Takeme’s administration. Colonel Jombo further requested an office space from the council to facilitate the veterans’ activities and asked for shoes and current rank plates to complete their uniforms for proper identification.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Vice Chairman, Chief (Mrs.) Georgina Evah; the Secretary of Burutu Local Government, Barr. R. Ombe; the Hon. Supervisors of the Council; the Principal Secretary, Mr. P. Yamene; the Chief of Staff, Prince S. Perekeme; the Adviser on Religious Matters, Bishop Adonyai; the Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Burutu, Mr. Mark Okou; and many others.
